There’s no EA Play Live scheduled for this year, but that hasn’t stopped Electronic Arts from making a splash. In recent weeks, the publisher has announced the release date for the Dead Space remake, announced Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, revealed Madden 23, and confirmed the title of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. For a publisher that claims they didn’t have much to show this summer, that sure is quite a bit.
But if there’s one game I’m really looking forward to learning more about it’s EA Sports College Football. Last year, EA shocked the world by announcing the return of its beloved NCAA Football franchise. But we really haven’t heard much since — at least not officially.
There have been numerous leaks pointing to a targeted 2023 release for EA Sports College Football. But that date stems from a copy of the EA Sports/CLC proposal to FBS schools and isn’t official. There are undoubtedly a ton of specifics EA has to work out, especially as it pertains to obtaining school licenses and player likeness. The changes to college football’s Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) program hopefully made navigating these uncharted waters easier for EA, but that’s just speculation.
Let’s just say EA does somehow lock in a 2023 release for the first installment in its EA Sports College Football revival, when can we expect to see more about the game?
I’m going to assume development is already well underway on the game, even if licensing details haven’t been fully ironed out. But perhaps EA is waiting to get more concrete details hammered out.
The targeted release date called for a July 2023 release for EA Sports College Football, so a little over a year from now. Considering that Madden 23, which launches in August, was only just revealed earlier this month, I think it’s safe to say that EA will not be revealing or talking about EA Sports College Football this summer, or possibly even this year.
With a game like this, that involves such a passionate college football fanbase, EA doesn’t really need the lead time to hype the game early on. They could literally reveal it a month before it drops and college football fans, desperate to play as their favorite college team, will flock to it.
So I’d say look out for more details on EA College Football sometime in early 2023. That is, if the game is actually going to release next year.
