The ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ PS4 Pro bundle leaves much to be desired.
Rockstar and Sony have revealed a new Red Dead Redemption 2 PlayStation 4 Pro bundle that comes with a 1 TB PS4 Pro system, a controller and the open-world Western game.
It is super boring.
Granted, you get a perfectly serviceable PS4 Pro and what looks to be an amazing game for $399 USD or $499 CAD but it’s just a plain, black PS4 Pro. That’s a nice upgrade from a standard PS4, but you’d expect something a little bit more interesting for on of the biggest games of the year.
I mean, look at this:
This is not a very interesting bundle.
So I suppose you could buy this (it’s already available for pre-order) and then go buy this Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro skin to make it look like a themed version of the system, but that’s extra money and skins are never as cool as custom consoles.
Now look at this amazing Spider-Man PS4 Pro:
This is awesome.
I’m tempted to go buy this even though I have a PS4 Pro and Spider-Man already (my review of that game is here.) It’s just that cool. I’m not going to since these are selling for nearly $600 at this point, but I’m tempted.
Alas, Red Dead Redemption 2’s PS4 Pro will never be this cool. I’m sure the game will be excellent, but I see very little reason to go out of your way for this bundle. Surely there will be others in the future that are much more tantalizing.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on October 26th with its online mode dropping the following month. You can read my colleague Dave Thier’s hands-on impressions of the game here and here.
