Animated show Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to get its own movie. Here’s what we know so far, including release date, cast, & story.
Despite its TV show being canceled after two underperforming seasons, the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is set to hit the big screen, and here’s what we know about it. The show was meant to have a third season, but after failing to draw in audiences and sell enough toys, Nickelodeon decided that it should be scrapped. However, it was later revealed that the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie would indeed return and be a continuation of the TV show.
Rise of the TMNT was a weak reboot and the fourth animated show about the crime-fighting turtles. The four brothers – Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelango – were revamped, receiving new looks, weapons and even mystical powers. After its mixed reviews, turning it into a Netflix movie perhaps comes as a bit of a surprise, especially with the number of inconsistent TMNT movies there have already been. The most recent was Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which was released in 2019 to some good reviews. There have also been a number of live-action versions, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016), which received much a much worse reception.
There is always going to be excitement for a TMNT movie due to the franchise’s popularity and the likeability of the Turtles. Despite the previous misfires, there is hope that Nickelodeon will make Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a great movie. Here is everything known about Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles so far.
Summer 2022 is set to be a busy one for Netflix, and the Turtles are set to be one of the streaming platform’s key releases. Nickelodeon revealed that Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would come out on August 5th, so there are only a few months left to wait. Hopefully, that means the animation is coming along nicely.
The voice cast of the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series is set to return for the movie. Ben Schwartz, Josh Brener, Omar Benson Miller, and Brandon Mychal Smith are returning to voice Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo respectively, while Kat Graham will return as April O’Neill. Ben Schwartz is known as Sonic the Hedgehog’s voice, his brilliant performance anchoring the two live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movies. Eric Bauza will also voice Master Splinter.
Back in 2021, the official synopsis of the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was revealed. It read: “When a mysterious stranger arrives from the future with a dire warning, Leo is forced to rise and lead his brothers, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey in a fight to save the world from a terrifying alien species…the Krang!” The Krang were seen most often in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series and have been antagonists throughout the years for the Turtles. The brain-resembling aliens come from dimension X and have the single goal of taking over the Earth. It appears the new movie is getting back to the franchise’s roots.
