A modder makes a new Red Dead Redemption 2 mod that causes NPCs to react in a more cinematic way after being shot.
When it comes to Rockstar's games, the first that many may think of is the long-running Grand Theft Auto series, but the wild west antics of Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 are just as sublime in terms of story, gameplay, visuals, and sheer scope. As one of the best open world video game franchises, it shows that a game about being an outlaw in America has so much potential. One of the most intriguing aspects about it is getting into shootouts with sheriffs and other bandits, and a new mod has been released which makes that aspect more "cinematic."
Uploading the file to Nexus Mods a few days ago, user AnymYo has created "Cineastic Euphoria Ragdoll Rework," or simply CERR, which is a fan-made add-on for Red Dead Redemption 2 that tweaks the ragdoll physics of NPCs, particularly when they're being shot. In the description, the mod is said to improve the reactions of characters after being shot, and an accompanying video shows it in action, whereby there is indeed a much more cinematic response when bullets start flying, sort of like in old Western movies.
AnymYo has also said that the inspiration came from the "euphoria behaviors" evident in its predecessor, the original Red Dead Redemption. In the "CERR" mod, NPCs will react differently depending on which gun is used, and also whereabouts on the body they've been shot. There are some additional animations for when characters take a bullet, such as falling and rolling, and there may be some more in future updates.
The sheer size of Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as its incredible story and gorgeous graphics, makes it one of Rockstar's most successful games, with a current Metacritic score of 97 on PS4 and Xbox One. The fact that there are people out there modding and tweaking the game shows that, despite how impressive the vanilla experience already is, there's always room for a little improvement here and there.
Whether there will be a third installment remains to be seen, but with Rockstar currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6, which could be out by the end of 2023 at the earliest, there may still be a possibility of a new game in the wild west series. All that can be said for sure is that there will be many fans out there that would love to see a Red Dead Redemption 3.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
