PlayStation’s reveal of Project: The Perceiver showcases similarities to both Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Project: The Perceiver is a new open-world action game being developed for PlayStation. Fans of Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice may want to add Project: The Perceiver to their watch list, as the exciting teaser trailer reveals a large range of information from gameplay to story and characters.
Project: The Perceiver is a Chinese open-world action game that is in development by PaperGames and 17ZHE Studio. The game will be released on the PS4 and PS5, although no release date has been announced yet. It is also unclear on whether it is going to be exclusive on PlayStation consoles, or if it will be released on either PC or Xbox as well. With the recently released 7 minute trailer, players may see similarities to games like Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, although the featured protagonist could give the most dangerous shinobi in video games a run for their money.
Project: The Perceiver seems to lean closer to Sekiro in terms of gameplay and story, seeing as how it takes place in a fantasy world featuring combat that relies heavily on blocking and parrying. The open world itself is as stunning as in Ghost of Tsushima, with players witnessing swords clashing in ways that highlight the technical aspects of its gameplay, which could rival even the most iconic sword fights in video games.
As far as the story is concerned, the dialogue expresses conflicting beliefs in ideals between opposing forces with an emphasis on the metacontextual analysis of its story through this idea of “play.” Whether the events of its story exist as a fiction within the protagonist's mind or if there is an extra layer of complexity to its world through the fantastical is to be determined, although the dialogue is certainly part of its mystery that can be intriguing to players. Other than the story, it is also to be determined if the gameplay will be more in line with the difficulties of FromSoftware games, or if it will appeal more to a mainstream audience like what Ghost of Tsushima produced.
Project: The Perceiver isn’t the only game of its style that will be releasing in the near future, as the rumored Ghost of Tsushima 2 and the recently revealed Rise of the Ronin are other PlayStation-developed games that could be sharing the spotlight. However, the complexity of its story and swordplay may allow Project: The Perceiver to stand out from other upcoming games in the same genre.
Project: The Perceiver is in development for PS4 and PS5.
