If your dream was to become a werewolf, you’re in luck. Follow this guide to complete the Silver Hand quest and turn yourself into one.
In Skyrim, you will have the opportunity to become a werewolf. This transformation can happen as you assist the Companions with The Silver Hand quest. For this quest, you will perform a ritual to become one with the Companions.
In this guide, we are going to go over how to complete The Silver Hand quest, as well as what the rewards are. It's important to know that becoming a werewolf is not optional in this quest. You will need to become one in order to continue through the Companions questline. However, you can cure yourself after completing this questline.
Prior to beginning The Silver Hand, you will need to complete the two main story quests listed below.
Quest
NPC To Speak With
Take Up Arms
One of the following:
Proving Honor
Skjor
In addition to the two main quests mentioned above, you will need to complete one Radiant quest. Radiant quests are given randomly. After completing Take Up Arms, you will need to complete one of the following quests.
Once you have completed one of these quests, members of the Companions will begin to direct you to Skjor.
Speak with Skjor of the Companions to accept The Silver Hand. During this conversation, Skjor will tell you to meet him near the Underforge at night. This is an underground ritual chamber located underneath Jorrvaskr. To get here, follow your marker until you come to the entrance.
Once it's nighttime, Skjor will be waiting at the entrance for you. Proceed with him into the Underforge, where you will meet Aela the Huntress, who will be in werewolf form.
After some brief introductions, you will now participate in the blood ritual to become a werewolf. Skjor will ask if you are ready, so if you decide that you no longer want to be a werewolf, you can decline and leave.
When ready, Skjor will cut Aela's wrist and fill the center fountain with her blood. Upon activating the fountain, you will be granted the Beast Form, and then you'll black out.
Once you wake up, you will be in werewolf form just outside the Underforge. In this form, the citizens of Whiterun will be hostile and flee. If guards are nearby, they will begin to attack you. Here, you can either flee or kill the citizens and guards. Choosing to kill will not result in a bounty, since you are a werewolf and unidentifiable.
After an allotted period of time, you will have another blackout.
If you don't want to engage with citizens and guards, you can stand next to the entrance of the Underforge until the time is up. Then, you'll black out.
After blacking out for the second time, you will wake up in human form and see Aela looking over you. Once awake, she will congratulate you on completing the initiation to become a werewolf. You may also notice that none of your gear is equipped; it is not lost, you just need to re-equip it from your inventory.
Aela will tell you of a Silver Hand camp nearby that needs to be exterminated. Your task is to make your way through this camp in Gallows Rock with Aela as your follower.
To get to Gallow Rock, head west from your current location, while following the waypoint marker.
At the entrance of Gallows Rock, you will see several Silver Hand guards. Defeat these enemies and proceed into their fort. Inside, you will be in a sealed room with a chain. Additionally, you will find werewolf heads placed around as decoration. Pull the chain to reveal the path forward.
From here, there is no correct route to take; just make your way to the northwestern chamber. You can sneak by any enemies or kill them, the choice is up to you. As you get here, Aela will tell you about the leader of the Silver Hand, named Krev the Skinner. Krev can be found inside this chamber, but the door will be barred. To get inside, head right through the rest of the dungeon.
Eventually, you will make it to Krev in this chamber and fight them.
Krev's race and gender will be random, making every Krev unique.
Krev will be joined by three archers that should be taken out first. Once all three archers are down, you can focus all of your attention on Krev. This fight is relatively straightforward; attack Krev in either human or werewolf form while avoiding their attacks.
If Krev is low leveled, you can use the Howl of Terror to inflict fear upon them.
After defeating Krev, Aela will discover that Skjor is dead. Speak with her here to end the quest, and then leave Gallows Rock.
The reward for completing this quest is Lycanthropy, or the power to turn into a werewolf. You will be able to use a variety of werewolf skills, and can obtain more powers through the Totems Of Hircine quest.
