When Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 1984, it was thought to simply be a one-off comic. Since then, the series has exploded into a global pop culture phenomenon that has led to five television series, six feature films, numerous video games, along with toys and a line of merchandise.
Goldin is currently auctioning one of the original 3,000 copies of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue #1 from 1984. The oversized 40-page comic is graded 9.8 with “White Pages” by CGC — ranked amongst 31 other copies that are the best kept in the CGC’s registry.
As with many first installments, Issue #1 tells the origin story of the fabled Ninja Turtles, their enigmatic sensei Splinter, along with their arch-nemesis, Shredder. The listing currently has a bid of $150,000 USD and will end on Wednesday, February 23 at 7pm ET.
In related news, Goldin is also auctioning an uncut sheet of base set holographic first edition ‘Pokémon TCG’ cards.
