Fallout 4 Won't Get Console Commands on PS4, Xbox One – GameRant

Bethesda VP of marketing Pete Hines has taken to Twitter to confirm that there are no plans to bring the console commands found in the PC version of Fallout 4 to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Console commands are familiar to any PC gamer — they’re a rough equivalent to an in-game command line interface, which can allow players to tinker with the game. Over the weekend, Bethesda marketing VP Pete Hines stated that the studio discourages this sort of meddling in Fallout 4 and won’t port the functionality to consoles.
Hines stated that use of the console is ‘not supported or recommended on PC’. He went on to explain that this functionality ‘can very easily mess up save games’, which is the reason Bethesda is taking such a hard stance with regards to its use in Fallout 4.
The VP also offered a response to another fan’s question as to whether console commands would ever make their way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Hines was quick to state that this was very unlikely, if for no other reason than the functionality is not permitted on those systems.
Bethesda had never given any indication that console commands would be available on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One. However, the fact that the company is set to offer other PC functionality on console in the near future may well have contributed to the expectations that Hines had to pour water over.
Back at E3, Bethesda made the surprising announcement that Fallout 4 would see mod support on the Xbox One shortly after launch. We’ve heard no further details on when to expect this functionality to be patched in, but plenty of fan-made content is already being produced for the PC version of the game.
While this statement will certainly be disappointing for players who would prefer to enjoy the benefits of the PC version of Fallout 4 on their home console, it’s really not unexpected. The game has already seen its fair share of major bugs, so the developers are probably keen to limit the amount of variables they’re contending with.
Even without cheat codes and console commands, there’s still plenty of content in Fallout 4 to keep players satiated. It’s a shame that console players don’t have access to all the same functionality as those on PC — but perhaps modders will be able to bring both versions of the game in line at a later date.
Fallout 4 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
